World Cup 2026 Group D puts the second co-host nation under the spotlight. USA arrive in their own backyard with Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Yunus Musah forming a midfield built for big moments. The pressure of hosting is real, but the quality is there. Türkiye are the most dangerous wildcard in the group — Arda Güler at Real Madrid and Hakan Çalhanoğlu at Inter Milan give them a ceiling few expected. Paraguay are quietly dangerous, with Miguel Almirón providing Premier League-tested experience. Australia, the Socceroos, have never been easy opponents and know how to grind through a tournament. Top Two Teams: The top two teams from each group automatically advance to the Round of 32.

Best Third-Place Teams: The eight best third-place teams across all 12 groups will also advance to the Round of 32, making a total of 32 teams in the knockout stage.

Tiebreakers: If teams are level on points, the following criteria are applied:

  1. Points obtained in matches between tied teams
  2. Goal difference in those matches
  3. Goals scored in those matches
  4. If the tie is partially resolved, the first three criteria are reapplied to the remaining teams
  5. Goal difference in all group matches
  6. Goals scored in all group matches
  7. Team conduct (fair play) score
  8. Most recent FIFA ranking and, if needed, earlier ranking editions
